USCCB Study Guide on Human Torture

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has released a study guide, "Torture is a Moral Issue," which looks at church teaching as it relates to the use of torture by government authorities around the world. The study guide can be used by discussion groups, classes, individuals, and families. Click here to access the study guide through the USCCB web site.

  1. Thanks for pointing us to this important resource. I think that our society in general is not oriented towards thinking of torture as a moral issue but instead as a necessary military or security practice. The USCCB study guide is a powerful tool for moving us to deeper consciousness about torture and other similar issues in the world around us. The greatest challenge (and opportunity) before us at the present moment seems to be to re-sensitize ourselves to the human dimensions of all of these interrelated issues after our society has been de-sensitized for so long.

  2. Amen, Lisa! There has been a de-sensitization and objectification toward all humans for so long that it is difficult to swing the pendulum in the other direction.
