Earth Hour, Saturday, March 27

In 2009 hundreds of millions of people around the world showed their support by turning off their lights for one hour.

Earth Hour 2010 will continue to be a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community. A call to stand up, to show leadership and be responsible for our future.

What are we asked to do? Turn off our lights for one hour, beginning at 8:30 pm on Saturday, March 27. Click here for more information.

Romero: 30 Years Later

March 24 marks the 30th anniversary of the assassination of San Salvador's Archbishop Oscar Romero at the hands of graduates of the School of the Americas. Perhaps today we could take some time to renew our commitment to closing SOA/WHINSEC. Go to the web site, http://www.soaw.org/ to learn more.

Maybe we could take some time to watch the film, Romero. Or, here' s a picture montage done by students for a Social Justice class. (E-mail subscribers, click here if you do not see a video link below):

Today, let's remember some of the words of Archbishop Romero:

Peace is not the product of terror or fear. Peace is not the silence of cemeteries. Peace is not the silent result of violent repression. Peace is the generous, tranquil contribution of all to the good of all. Peace is dynamism. Peace is generosity. It is right and it is duty.

Let the people say, "Amen."

JFI March 21 Mass and March

As promised, here's your second reminder:

A message from Justice for Immigrants (JFI):

On Sunday, March 21st, JFI will host a Mass in support of immigrants with celebrants Cardinal Mahony and Bishop Wester at 11:00am at St. Aloysius Church (19 I Street N.W., Washington DC 20001). Afterward, please join thousands of people on the National Mall to urge our members of Congress to introduce and pass immigration reform legislation. With the expectation that comprehensive immigration reform could soon be considered by Congress, it is crucial that supporters of reform make their voices heard on Capitol Hill. Anyone that cannot attend the March 21st events can still take action in support of reform by sending electronic postcards to your members of Congress postcard.
